Tichina Arnold tapped as AAFCA Host

America’s largest organization of black film critics, AAFCA, has tapped actress Tichina Arnold as host of their upcoming award show.

The group of film critics who review films and television shows that include storytellers from the African Diaspora, recently named Disney’s “Black Panther” the best film of the year with Ryan Coogler picking up the award for Best Director.

“We are thrilled to have Tichina Arnold host our milestone show,” shared Gil Robertson, AAFCA’s President and CEO. “If there is anyone who knows about longevity in Hollywood, it’s this amazingly talented woman. In an industry frequently called out for a past where roles for black actors and women have been rare, Tichina has risen above the limitations to hammer out a magnificent career spanning nearly 40 years on pure talent and persistence. Her brilliance as a comedic actress is why her roles as Pam on “Martin,” Rochelle on “Everybody Hates Chris,” Cassie on “Survivor’s Remorse” and now Tina on “The Neighborhood” are so beloved.

Films “Sorry to Bother You,” “If Beale Street Could Talk” “The Hate U Give” and the heist drama “Widows” are some of the many films which will be celebrated at their annual star-studded award ceremony which usually takes place every February during Black History month.

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) is the brainchild of veteran journalists Gil Robertson and Shawn Edwards who were frustrated with the film industry’s failure to promote positive images and themed stories from the African Diaspora.

Oprah Winfrey, Anthony Anderson, David Oyelowo, Jovan Adepo,, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sheryl Lee Ralph, Courtney B. Vance, Aldis Hodge, Carl Weathers, Rick Famuyiwa and Louis Gossett Jr. are just some of the many celebrities who have attended this worthwhile ceremony.

Previous AAFCA hosts include Entertainment Tonight reporter Nischelle Turner and Terrence J.

The 10th Annual AAFCA Awards show will take place on Wednesday, February 6 in Hollywood at the Taglyan Complex.
