Imo APC Local Government Congress Postponed

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government congress in Imo state earlier scheduled to hold today May 12, has been postponed until further notice.

The postponement comes after the secretariat of the APC, located along Okigwe road in Owerri, the state capital was gutted by fire, destroying property and vital documents on Friday.

The incident created a tense political atmosphere as some members alleged that the secretariat was set ablaze by some yet to be identified hoodlums.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 6:00 p.m. during a heavy downpour which made people around the area scamper for safety.

Security operatives and fire service officials were later able to put the situation under control.

While the true cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, the Imo State Commissioner of police, Dasuki Galadanchi, who later came to access the situation told newsmen that the police will get to the root of the matter.

He assured the people of the state to go about their normal business as the police will ensure the safety of lives and property.

Galadanchi also noted that in the meantime, the APC office will be cordoned off.
